I am trying to use a geometry/mesh created in ICEM CFD for a simulation in Fluent.

The geometry is basically a room, and one of the surfaces is supposed to have natural convection. I haven't figured out how to create an "two-sided wall" surface in ICEM so that Fluent will create a shadow wall for this wall when loading the mesh.

If this is an internal wall - you need to make sure the surface is preserved in the ICEM CFD mesh. When you read the mesh into Fluent - it will see the surface mesh has 3D elements on both sides - and it will create the shadow.

For Tetra mesh - make sure you flag the surface as an 'Internal Surface' in the mesh parameters (bring up Surface Parameters panel to see the check box for 'Internal Surface').

For Hexa mesh - make sure you project the block faces to the Surface Part so the surface mesh is created correctly.

However, it is not an internal wall.

Basically it is a room with one wall that is separated in two sections. One section represents a window and should have a fixed temperature with natural convection. The other part is the remaining part of the wall and it should have a constant heat flux.

At first hand, I would like to create a hexa mesh.

I guess my approach should be something simular to what you described, but I'm still not really sure how to do it. I am familiar to the approach you described; I have created similar meshes in Gambit for internal walls. Should I create another surface on top of the volume surface or something like that? Or do I have to have two volumes on each side of a surface for a shadow wall to be created?
