Mould filling with vof?

Hi, I'm trying to simulate a injection moulding process (filling) with the vof model. But, to be honest, I don't really know how. I started with a velocity inlet and walls but I have now idea about the parameter. I would like to have something like this: http://www.fluent.com/software/fluent/fluent63.htm (the multiphase example, just with a simple geometry) http://www.fluent.com/software/fluen...filling_sm.jpg

Can anybody help? can anyone give some hints?

thank you…

Re: Mould filling with vof?

hi..

ur inlet condition is o.k you start the solution by initializing the solution with vof of the secondary fluid with a value of 0(zero). let the secondary fluid be the fluid with which u fill the cavity and the primary fluid as air..(genraly) give the vof of the secondary fluid at the inlet =1. you have to start the animation also for this problem.. so if you start animation u can see how the fluid moves through the mould..

it s a transient problem i think.. initially give very small time step.. activate gravity effect also.. start tring like this.. any doubt let me know..

hi, thanks for the response. now it works :) well i hope so... i don't have any 'real life' data but it looks well. now i would like to present the filling process in some pictures and it will be useful to make the air transparent. but i can't find these function...???

hi.

air transparent..?? i could not understand.. after you initialize the solution as i said earlier.. you go the animation panel(solve tool bar).and select contours of the vof of secondary fluid with draw grid option..and (enable feature option for grid)run. see the user guide.. it s made easy there. so you can see the flow of the secondary fluid in the mould as the solution and time progress.. at the end of simulation as usual u can save animation files(.hmf files) into mpeg file. do mail me if u struk anywhere. c u.

Re: Mould filling with vof?

hi ravi, i thing my problem is that i don't have a thin borderline between the both phases (nylon and air) it's mor like a full spectrum of colours over the full domain. the nylon (2nd phase) has a blue core and the air is normaly red. so i'm not able to display just one phase. an other problem i'm dealing with is the boundary condition at the outlet. if i'm defining this as an wall i will get high preassures inside the cavity and slow fill. and if im defining a preassure outlet it seems that the nylon is going out through this. thank you very much for your help so far, i made a good progress thanks to you... i'm so glad that there are people like you. maybe you have some hints for the problems above...?

Re: Mould filling with vof?

I m also using the mold filling with VOF and combining solidification with the help of UDF. My question is that, I have sand mold surrounding the mold. i am assuming sand mold to be solid and innside we have domain in which metal is to be filled. initially in this domian air is present and it is displaced gradually by metal coming and air is going out thru some vents. but using VOF model i m not able to take sand mold as solid zone. how this prob can be resolved? thanks a lot.

ask for help

hi.
Recently I am working on fluent-vof model. Without good examples, I have little success. Can you kindly send me some fluent-vof examples of filling or casting for my study by email. My email is xiongzongwei1984@yahoo.com.cn. Ths!
