How to simulate the flow and heat transfer of phase change materials?

Dear all ,

I have to simulate the flow and heat transfer of phase change materials in fluent but I don't know how to do that in fluent what is the difference from the pure fluid and how to introduce the effect of phase change and the meltting of pcm since the energy equation is differ from the single fluid.

Please who know how to do that to help me because I need that urgently

Thanks alot

Dear Rosol,

You can read FLUNT help about "solidification/melt" model and there is a case about "casting", told how to use it.

Dear chaos thank you for your response,

My work is not on complete solidification i,e the fluid is suspension of water and microencapsulated pgase change material .the fluent help speaking about solidification of metals .please if you have an idea about that to help me.

Regards

Dear rosol,

I just begin to learn PCM simulation recently. I think maybe you can first calculate the PCM boundary condition in water, set PCM as solid,Then build PCM separately with boundary condition(obtain from first calculation).

hello rosol and chaos,

im doing on project simulation of solidification of pcm.generally pcm have two density at different phases. how to incorporate this condition in fluent?

Hello sudhir,

In fluent, you can set a polynomial(density vs temperature)to incoporate two density at different phases.

There are detailed explanation in fluent help at Modeling Solidification.

In melting of pcm as I know the density of pcm is an avarage of liquid and solid phase .But in solidification I do not have enough information.

Hi,
I am trying to model melting process and i have two different densities one for the liquid phase and the other for the solid phase also i read all the detailed in the fluent help at Modeling Solidification but they didn't mention how to do these two densities in one equation ? and i think the values of C1 & C2 are different in each cases therefore i cannot depend on the vales in the fluent help. My question is how to make one equation of liquid phase density & solid phase density in one equation? Help me please .

try DEFINE_SPECIFIC_HEAT, MACRO IN UDF..it has to be compiled
