3D CFD importing

hi, iv recently just begun using gambit/fluent for a final yr project and would realy appreciate some help on this. I am analysing the flow around the rear wing of a race car and have now come to doing some 3d investigations.
i have made my model/assembly in solidworks, and would now like to know, what is the best way to import this into gambit for meshing. i know this is probably one of the easiest/dumbest questions out there but i have tried a few different methods and nothing seems to work...and im getting pretty frustrated.haha anyways, if anyone could help me on this it would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance |

if your direct import your solid geometry, you will have ton extract the fluid domain. This is simply accomplished by substracting your computational domain with your solid domain. Or you can directly create your fluid domain within your CAD Package

Hi
If u want to mesh a CAD model in gabit by importing it, u have to build the model in CAD as a single part(not an assembly). Save ur solidworks model as a Parasolid(x_t) file and then import it from Gambit file menu. hope this helps regards, Madhukar |

you can also import your assembly as Step File into gambit. (no problem with assembly)

ahh ok isee, thanks for the replies.
i will have to try these things out. is it simply by just saving it in solidworks as a parasolid?? and that is .xt i will let you know if i run into any more trouble, which is more than likely.haha thanks once again.big help |
