HI everyone

I have saved a time series of .dat files in Fulent and now want to post-process these file. I am trying to read these .dat files using Matlab but it seems there is no information on the data format of these .dat files. Could any one help?

Many thanks in advance!

It is present in the manual. But, unless you are trying to go into something really complex, the typical approach to postprocessing is to just save monitors/profiles and post-process them, which are much more easy to manage. This is especially true for memory, as soon as you go beyond 1Mln cells, you either are really good in Matlab or it is going to be very slow in reading files.

It's in the Fluent User's Guide, Appendix B.

Also, note that usually the .cas and .dat files are saved in binary format, which makes importing them that much more annoying.

Usually you save monitors and profiles and only post-process those variables. If you need the entire .dat file, it's better to do the processing directly in Fluent or via a dedicated post-processor rather than writing your own code from scratch.
