ERROR: can't convert face into submappable region
 

Hi, this may seem like a relatively simple question but I really need some help with this.

I am modelling in 2D an airfoil inside a circle. The airfoil is constructed from edges joining 400 vertices. I have set the number of nodes on each airfoil edge as 1. I then set the number of nodes on the circle as 400. But when I try to mesh the face GAMBIT says 'ERROR: face could not be converted to a submappable region'.

I have tried looking in the user guide but can't really find anything of much help.

I am a new user of GAMBIT and not familiar with all its functions so bare with me

the one to one relation cant be found by mapping ..... i would sugest u to go through the gambit help files....

Basically, what Anup means is that in order to use a mapping scheme you need the same number of nodes on the cicrle as the airfoil. You can either mesh each of these again using node count instead of defining the distance between node points as is the default and then remesh.

Or you could choose a different scheme such as a tetrahdral unstructured mesh. More advanced methods allow you to sub-divide your domain first by using the split command to split faces with edges. This then allows you to mesh your domain in individual sub-domains. It gives you more control over how much you vary the nodal density and starting inside out is good practice.

If you do this remember not to stretch mesh elements too aggressively. Try checking the quality after you mesh and aim to keep the equiangle skew below 0.85 if possible.

yeah and also use the check button in gambit to check how many cells are beyond the max limit ( the normal practise is to keep the ratio less than 1:10 in case of sides of a quad mesh or the skewness to 0.85)
