Default Pulsating source term to select volumes thru UDF?

I'm looking for a way to create pulsations (possibly with a time dependent sinusoidal forcing function) through a SOURCE TERM in select volumes/cells of my domain. Should this be accomplished through a UDF? I'd like to create one or two such source terms for either mass/momentum in the domain and see how the flow field is influenced.

Your suggestions are welcome.
