Fluent on QuadCore
 

Hi, I am testing Fluent on a QuadCore Workstation with Windows Xp X-64 Edition.

While running, the usage of CPU is abut 25%, distributed equally on each core.

The question is if there is a method to fully use CPU, in other words I want to have each core work 100%.

Using Fluent on Intel quad cores is a waste of time.

Speed up on a quad core is ~2.5X whereas two dual core boxes linked via ethernet will give you ~3.8X. Two dual cores in a workstation motherboard will also give ~3.8X.

Look at the benchmarks on www.fluent.com ... Intel quads are a waste of time in Fluent whereas the Intel duals perform very well indeed.

I've already read the benchmarks, but I've been asked to do the tests, so I have to waste a bit of time. The question remains, is there a method to have every core working at its maximum power?

The only intel quads/octos that will scale properly are the upcoming Nehalems ... late 2008.

Thank you, I'll make the last trial with a parallel processing code.

The performance is limited by the memory bus (bottleneck). All 4 cores have to share the same memory. So there is no way to increase the CPU load per core. It is, as said, a waste of time.

Dear Manfred, the only way to have a 100% in a computer with more than one CORE is via Parallel Code.

My name is Martin and I am working close to HCCI engine tech. I was build model of this engine and simul. in Fluent aprox. 0.5milons cells and I loking for the help.

Manfred At this time I am using q6600 parallel (100% utilizing of all cores) and I am understand that scaling is not perfect but is working fine for me but still is too slow. Switch your domain on parallel process and you will see big difference.

Colleagues I have question. I would like to connect 2 computers with C2D processor or quad, which idea is better? I heard that must be win 2003 server as the host and domain and mpich2 also is required. Colleagues it is possible to get help from you and explain me how connect both computers step by step for fluent code. Many Thanks Martin
