Is it possible to simulate free convection of a liquid which is in contact with a gas in a cavity? Can FLUENT model the expansion of the liquid due to thermal expansion? Can it capture the volume change that occurs for both liquid and gas?

i think u can easily model it. like defining change of density with respect to temperature etc in material properties.

let me know your feed back

What I want FLUENT to model is to give me information about the volume change. In fact, it does model the density variation according to Boussinesq approximation or other models.

To take an example, suppose I have a liquid with a volume of 1 liter. Now, apply heat to the container. Can FLUENT model the change in volume based on the relation V_new=V_oldÃ-(1+betaÃ-dT)? I think I have to use VOF model. Because it is needed to include a free surface that allow the liquid to expand and pressurized the gas that has an interface with the liquid.

Thank you in advance.
