Information about Courant number

I am stimulating the flow over a supercritical airfoil in Fluent. And i need the proper information about the Courant number and it calculations. Its effect on my analysis. The solver is density based. The interval size of meshing is 0.2, implicit and steady conditions.

Re: Information about Courant number

courtant number is a correction number for calculations. on fluent manual is something written explaining better how it works.

Re: Information about Courant number

as far as i am concerned, when I run my simulation I try to keep the CFL number to be below 1.

Re: Information about Courant number

CFL number <1 Check fluent 6.4.11. It has some new utilities.

Re: Information about Courant number

Hi! I am trying to track the free surface of water in a cylindrical pipe which is partially submerged in the wave flume( in my wave flume experiment, wave flume depth of 1 meter, cylinder height 80 cm, submerged height in water 50 cm)and this cylinder is open at both ends. Now I am trying to predict the pressure or the velocity of the free surface of the water inside this cylinder. I have made my meshing in Gambit and modeling it as 2 D problem with axis symmetric solver. my top open face of cylinder (in 2d, an edge which is open to atmosphere)is defined by me as pressure outlet, bottom face as pressure inlet, two phase VOF model, with 50 cm of cylinder water rest 50 cm of cylinder upper part as air. I am applying pressure at the bottom face of cylinder created due to 2d wavez (using first order wave theory, I calculated the dynamic pressure at the depth of 50 cm below the water free surface due to 25 cm height,1.5 second wave period wave.) Now I want to see the effect due to this pressure at the free surface inside the cylinder which is exposed to atmospheric pressure. Which model(laminar, turbulent, k-epsilon) should I choose? values of various parameter? I tried to simulate but I am getting an error message when I try to iterate - " fatal floating point error" some one please throw light and guide me.
