refinement of cells only in ONE direction

Hi!

I have a mesh, that is made of cells that have a low hight (in x direction) and a large width (in y direction, for a 2d case).

Now, i want to locally refine the cells, but only reduce the with (in y direction), otherwise, to many cells would result.

is that possibly??

Hi

Go to Adapt-->iso-value-->Grid-->y surface area

Specify an Iso-max value lower than that of your elements.

let me know if this helps

Re: refinement of cells only in ONE direction

The method above is only suitable where growth follows cartesian direction in all locations so is very limited and likley only applicable to more idealised geometries esp for adaption of prismatic layers.

Anisotropic adaption (refinement in one direction) will be available in Fluent12 as a stand alone GUI utility. You can test in the beta version for now only.
