Hi everyone,

I imported the mesh (in FLUENT)of Francis turbine (hydro turbine),which consist of three fluid zones correspond to Casing, runner and draft tube respectively.

But FLUENT does not show any shadow walls between different components, though the mesh of different components are different and not fused with each other.

Please reply me as early as posible.

Thanks in advance.

you will only get a shadow wall if the mesh on a common wall is the same. That is to say if their are two volume zones that are connected and separated by one wall then FLuent will split the wall into two, i.e wall and then its shadow. So the two volume zones each have their own identical wall. You say your mesh is different and "not fused" well you will have seperate walls for the bounds of each of your volume zones and hence their is no need for Fluent to generate a shadow. Bear in mind their will be no heat transfer if this is the case.

Nick, Thanks for the reply.

As such, in my case heat transfer is not involved.

But there are two static parts(i.e.casing and draft tube)and one rotating part(i.e. runner). Water will enters from casing to runner and then goes to draft tube.

So please...please let me know, whether in this case, generation of shadow walls is required or not.If required then what could be the reason,FLUENT is not generating shadow walls.

Once again thanks in advance.

Hi Nick,

Thanks...I got the solution, for why shadow walls were not created?

I found that, FLUENT will create shadow wall only when two different volumes shares the common(single) face. i.e. at the junction between two volumes vertices, edges and faces must be connected but two volumes shall not be merged.

Thanks again.
