Hope someone can offer some advise.

From the FLUENT manual, it is recommended that the the mesh is smoothed to maximum skewness of 0.6, for 3D simulation. However, the suggested (alternating 4 smoothing iterations followed by swapping until no faces swapped) method does not improve all the skewed meshes. In other word, I can still further smooth my mesh.

Is it advisable to use a high number of smoothign iteration, say 2000 iterations, to ensure all the skewed meshes are improved until no nodes are moved upon further iterations?

Meshes with cell skewness 0.96 will be ok. 0.6 will be for face skewness and not cell skewness. in my experience if you cant get the volume mesh skewness appreciably down within about 3-8 iterations then more iterations wont help and the surface meshes need re-meshing. Wouldn't use >20 in any case.

Thank you. This cleared up some of my doubts. Actually, I am hoping that by improving the skewness of my mesh, it will help in the convergence as I am usign the RSM model. Have tried playing around with the solver, relaxation factors, step-by-step solution but still does nto work.

Thanks.

hi,

i am a new kid in CFD. I have started using starCCM+ for my project. it would be of great help for me if you could explain what is cell skewness and why is it important.

many thanks
