nusselt number calculation in Fluent

i am doing the problem related to helical coil heat exchanger, after completion of simulation in ANSYS fluent soft ware i need to calculate nusselt number. how to calculate that in the fluent..???

Plotting nusselt number distribution of flow

Hi guys,

I am currently simulating turbulent flow through heated axisymmetric passage with circular rib-turbulators. The flow is incompressible turbulent flow and the heated walls have a constant heat flux of 200000 w/m2. I have plotted the chart for temperature of the flow and now I want to plot the nusselt number distribution from said temperature chart. How do I proceed from there?
Thank you.

Hi, I'm new in Fluent and Heat transfer. I'm trying to simulate steady natural convection in an enclosure. My questions are:

I tried to calculate Nusselt number using Report>Surface integrals>Surface nusselt number. But the Nusselt number I am getting is absurd. Is there any way to calculate Nusselt number?

Also what is the characteristic length of that geometry?

Please help me in this matter.
Thank you!

asking reference temperatur at convective heat transfer

Dear All,

I am trying to simulate laminar flow of forced convection heat transfer in plain pipe (constant temperature) in FLUENT 17.2. I am using periodic boundary condition. The Wall temperature is 17 C and the inlet is 27 C. I am confused with the reference value of temperature. Surface Nusselt Number in text book is 3.6. There are some deviation if I use different reference temperature. which reference temperature I use in this case? whether wall temperature or inlet temperature?

Thank you
best regards

can you please tell me how to calculate nusselt number in the rectangular channel as you did please?

If the pipe has some kind of dimple or protrusion on its inner surface keeping the thickness of pipe constant everywhere. Then how to create a line for Total surface heat flux calculation?
Thank you.

Gambit

I'd like to know if Gambit has been changed to some other software or has it been permanently dissolved in Ansys workbench?

Gambit has been discontinued for more than a decade. It is superceded by ICEM in Ansys.

If you like Gambit but not ICEM, I recommend to also look at Gridpro.

Thanks for your reply. May I ask you your experience with both of these software, being a novice I don't have much knowledge as far as ICEM is concerned and GridPro is very new to me.

LuckyTran February 6, 2019 09:13

I have a slight preference for Gridpro because it makes really nice smooth grids. But except for the grid smoother, all three have the same functionality when it comes to making block meshes. However, Gridpro doesn't do tet or polyhedral meshes. If you want a general purpose mesher, then ICEM is the better choice

Nusselt Number

Dear Redlemon,
I have simulate a 3d pipe Flow With length of pipe 2 m And inner and outer Diameter 0.02 & 0.025 m respectively. Now I input boundary condition at inlet with avg velocity calculated from reynolds no.
due to double wall I have a wall-liquid ,wall-solid , wall.

1. I put heat flux = 0 for wall(outer)
now my question is what is difference between wall-solid and wall-liquid?
I have put Heat flux = 200 for both the wall (solid & liquid) as i want to put a insulation on outer wall and a constant heat flux condition....is this right?

secondly for Nu calculation the reference area should be surface area of pipe
length should be diameter of pipe and temperature should be bulk mean temperature.

please reply , your help is highly appreciated.
