How to read partcal info from a generated plane

Hello sir
I am trying to evaluate diesel spray characteristics. I could generate spray , need your help in extracting the data (like partical diameter etc.,) from a plne. Thank you |

If you're using the DPModel there is an example code called Define_DPM_Output, in the UDF Manual, which can be hooked into the Report -> Discrete Phase -> Sample. Then the only way I've found to use the data is to import the generated text file into excel (or other spreadsheet). This records most particle parameters and the co-ordinates at which it crossed the plane. Build the plane: Surface -> Line/Rake or Plane. There'll be lots of information if you search these fora for DPM Output. |

Thank u sir, but the example given is related to melting-index, i could not follow that. Can you please help me out from this issue by giving some guide lines sreenivasulu

The Define_DPM_Ouput code given is general and doesn't include any user defined variables. (Starts page 2-169 UDFMan) You've found a specific use of it within the melting index example of Define_DPM_Scalar_Update. Have you used UDFs before? I find it easiest to copy the text out of the UDF Manual into a text editor (delete any page numbers etc. unintentionally copied when selecting) and save in the fluent working directory as a .c. For windows fluent has to be launched from a command prompt (to add UDFs) then I prefer to compile. To get the results Report -> Discrete Phase -> Sample. Choose the injection and the plane/line you want. If the library loaded properly discrete_phase_sample should be available in the drop-down menu under User-Defined Functions. Then press Compute. I have not been able to get this to work with unsteady particle tracking despite the constraint stated above the code about this being neccessary. The data is output as a text file called 'plane'.dpm in the working directory so be careful if taking multiple samples, they'll overwrite eachother. I then import these into excel. There'll be plenty of help on compiling UDFs in these fora if you need it. Cheers. Kris |
