Sliding mesh setup for a mixing tank in Gambit

Hi, i'm a student and I need to approach the problem of a mixing reactor with the sliding mesh.
I've got several problems modelling the impeller and generating the grid with Gambit, because I didn't find tutorials and manuals quite explicative on this particular matter. I just would like to know if anyone knows some literature, links, anything, about how to model a mixing tank and create the sliding grid with Gambit. Thanks. |

The easiest way of setting up a sliding mesh case is to convert an MRF case to a sliding mesh case inside FLUENT. Preparing an MRF case is much easier.
In GAMBIT, create two domains, one for the stationary part, and one for the rotating part. you can create a bounding cylinder around the impellers, and split the tank into two volumes. Specify the contiinuums separately, and specify your other boundary conditions accordingly. Exportt to FLUENT. In FLUENT, in the boundary condition panel, choose the rotating domain, go the the motion tab, and specify a moving reference frame motion. Specify the angular velocity and rotating centre. Specify all other boundary conditions as required. Then using the text user interface, TUI, go to Grid>Modify Zones>MRF-to-sliding-mesh. Enter the ID number for the rotating zone and press enter. This will setup your case to become a sliding mesh case. Hope that helps |

Thanks, I'll try that way.
Anyway, I've got some problem meshing the impeller zone and getting the mesh read by fluent too. I get some errors. I wish there could be some documentation on the internet about this particular phisical setup. |

I don't know... I thank you very much, but I'm a student and I'm doing my graduation thesis, hence I'm sort of a beginner with this softwares, maybe spending some time reading better the manuals and practicing I can figure it out by myself, I wouldn't bother you. My model in gambit is kind of a mess, if I'm honest, here it it is why I've been just searching some internet documentation about examples of stirred tank modeling.
Anyway, I've got your email, if I'm in trouble I'll eventually send you my .dbs file for help. Thanks a lot. |

Thanks to your suggestion, it looks like I sort of made it.
Mrf-to-sliding-mesh is actually the easiest way to set up a sliding mesh problem. Now I might have some problems setting up some options on the solver, because I'm using the LES turbulence modeling. Can I email you for a bit of help? Thanks nycera |

hi. i'm a student too. i have a problem with MRF. but i am trying to mesh a fan blade instead of mixing tank. i tried to split outer volume with inner volume. but then after i export the mesh and read it in fluent. the inner volume has become interior instead of the sliding volume enclosed the blade. it makes me wonder if my split setting is wrong. is anybody can help?

Hi
I'm using sliding mesh for rectangular mixing tank but i'm not entirely sure that i'm getting the right answer mostly because of this picture that i attached. Can someone please tell me why i'm getting only lines in that plane and the plane is not filled.I think its because of the mesh, am i right ?Mesh11.jpg |
