Creating Animation of Time Dependent Model

Hello people,

I'm simulating a free surface using the VOF model and would like to be able to see how surface waves advance with time. Is there a method to create an animation of this, or a command to save an image of the free surface every set number of timesteps, with the timestep number appended to the file name?

Thanks.

Hi You can display the image first, and use hardcopy panel to save the image. For example, if you want to name the image as the format "animation.timestep number.tif", you can input animation.%t.tif when you are asked for the name of image. Hope this is helpful

use Tecplot 360 as a postprocessing software where you can directly play animations for unsteady simulations.

I found the procedure in the link below very useful to quickly create animations (usually gif format) of transient data. It gives step by step instructions and can be done with free software. Of course using Tecplot, EnSight etc one can always create fancier animations. I'm using this procedure for 2D. I cannot comment on how much more difficult would be to apply this for 3D simulations. However Fluent has a tutorial dealing with 3D image generation (vof-sloshing) through journaling. Once the images are generated the rest is fairly simple.
