Fluent: No. of Elements Limitation
 
Hello I need help!

I have been getting a malloc error when i run a mes file have elements greater than 2.0 million elements. what is the solution to such a problem

do i have to increase the RAM of the system. I curretly have 2 GB ram on my system. I am using an educational version of fluent. I am expectig to work on 4- 5 million elements.

Kindly tell me how to resolve this matter.

you may have to have more RAM. 2GB RAM is not enough.

Do u think increasing the ram will help me work with larger number of elements.

or does it have something to do with licensing issue too

This is a RAM issue. However, more RAM will only help if you run simulations if you use multiple processors or if your computer cpu are 64-bit!

On a single 32-bit cpu you can theoretically access ~4Gb of RAM. However, this is usually much less (limited by the operating system) and might be as little as 2Gb for Windows and slightly more for unix based platforms.

If you run on two 32-bit processors you double the RAM you can access. If you have a single 64-bit cpu you will not have any problems!

Fluent has no limitations to the amount of RAM it can access and licensing is certainly not an issue.
