How to setup two nonconformal boundaries as periodics?

Hi, all,

I meshed only one passage, the space between two blades, of a wheel which have 6 blades within ICEM. I want to define the rotating zone as in CFX. Saying, define the two lateral faces as periodic faces, and also set periodic for the rotro/stator interfaces. Will it be achieved in Fluent?
I imported the mesh into Fluent, and all the interfaces were set as walls in ICEM. Then define them as the right type in Fluent. Because of the nonconformal faces, I failed to make periodic via TUI, even followed 6.8.4:Creating Periodic Zones/Creating Non-Conformal Periodic Zones.

Below is the error message:
/grid/modify-zones> mp
Periodic zone [()] 11
Shadow zone [()] 12
Rotational periodic? (if no, translational) [yes]
Create periodic zones? [yes]
zone 11: matched 147 out of 441 faces.
zone 12: matched 147 out of 441 faces.
Error: Failed to make zones periodic.
Error Object: #f

I changed the type to interface through Define/Boundary Conditions. Am I wrong? Or something others have to care?

Thanks in advance.

changing the to interface is one of the solution.

Normally there could two reason for this error. First check the origin rotation. So how do we check, open the design in design modeler then use point entity to check the centre of rotation coordinate. u can even draw on the surface of your model and find the centre of rotation. (anyway works). if its rotating along z axis then get the x and y coordinate and place it in fleunt>cell zone condition> rotation axis origin.

if it does work then maybe its due to different number of cell on the face of the two surface. It a non conformal periodic.(https://www.sharcnet.ca/Software/Flu...ug/node186.htm) you have change the type of B.c from wall to interface then use Mesh Interface where you select the surfaces, check the periodic B.C set the angel offset and create periodic.
