Fluent on Linux

Hi all,

I am new to Linux and tried to install Fluent on it. I had done everything mentioned in the installation guide and the CFD-online forum as well but I am still unable to run it. For example, I first install the .sh file using sh command then added some lines in the .bash_profile file. I have installed everything in the home directory. But now, when I type fluent in the terminal window it says fluent is not a command.

Can somebody pls help that where am I making a mistake or whats the problem?

Nup it doesnot work I tried to use it but it still says the same fluent is not a command

cd to the folder where the executable is
and retry

here is what I tried
1) I installed the .sh fiel into the folder home
2) I used sh command and then tyoed the fiel name to extract it
3) After that I typed fluent (didnt work) I was in home dir
4) I went into the Fluent.Inc and then typed fluent (*Didnt work)
5) I went into the bin and then typed fluent (didnt work)
6)then I copied .bash_profile file into home and wrote some lines as mentioned in the installation guide but no success

Please guide me if i am missing something

since you get the unknown command, it means that the executable isn t recognized.
Is there a fluent executable under /bin?
I think there is other folders like 2d 2ddp 3d 3ddp
go into one of these folder, and try to call the executable (which is in the folder)

I dont know how Linux shows an executable file, unlike in Windows where it is .exe. But in the bin folder this is the only file avaialble. I will try in other folders as well.
What about liscence file do we need to do something with liscense install or something like that as we did in windows?

I don't have fluent anymore, but I remember I had similar issue
It was just a problem of environment variable

Once it is solved, you have to install the Fluent License Manager and to place your license file under /license

I told you that I have already modified the .bash_profile file but it did not work

you are not supposed to copy and paste the .bash_profile file
It is supposed to be already present under your user folder /home/user_folder, where user_folder is the session you are logged in

/.../Fluent.Inc/fluent-6.x.x/bin/fluent
or
/.../Fluent.Inc/fluent-6.x.x/bin/fluent 3d
where 6.x.x is the fluent release you are trying to run

Hi,

I am able to run fluent 6.3.26 on Linux suvccessfully. But unfortunatley the performance is slower than Windows HPC wich I had previously installed. What could be the reason? And even sometimes the Fluent hangs as well.
