Dear Colleagues!

I would like to simulate a furnace, which act as a counterflow heat exchange reactor. The furnace is like a big vertical pipe. On the top, there is the input for the granular material, which goes thru the pipe and will be discharged at the lower part of the furnace.

In the middle of the furnace are the burners located, where natural gas and air are blown into the kiln seperately.

At the lower end of the furnace some air is pressed in the furnace to cool down the granular material.

I made a small sketch of the furnace, which is attached.

I'm mainly interessted in the temperature distribution within the granular material in dependence of charging rate; amount of primary air, gas and cooling air; ratio of primary air to cooling air;...

I tried to do a Euler-Euler simulation, with one granular phase. Additionally I would like to use species transport/methane-air to simulate the combustion. But until now, I am not successful. Even without combustion I don't get a converged result.

My questions at the moment:
- Do you think, that it would be possible to simulate this process with the choosen models
- What type of BC should I use for the granular material

Thanks for your support

Mike
