Free surface flow settubg boundary conditions and plotting velocity profiles

Fluent 6.3

1. I have doubts about setting the top boundary condition in free surface flow. I know that it is a pressure outlet boundary condition at the top but what to set for mixture, water and air. Whether is it required to select open channel flow option under multiphase tab. Please explain me in detail how to set the boundary condition at the interface between water and atmosphere.

2. I have doubts on plotting velocity profiles for water flow. I know that plotting using Solution XY plot but it is giving velocity profiles for mixture, i.e I can see velocity profile above the free surface. But I don’t want velocity profile above the water surface.

3. Please help me how to plot water depth profiles in an open channel. I can create a line perpendicular to the bed or parallel to the bed but help me how to proceed from there.

Thanks in advance

about question 3, you can define a surface whose vof is 0.5. it is often considered as interface.

Dear Shoushibo,

I have followed your advise and I have defined a surface with vof=0.5. But then how can I visualize on this surface the colour map for the water depths?

Thank you
Bye
