CD nozzle contour design for 2D analysis

hi all,
i am doing a project on analysis of flow through CD nozzle. i am planning to design the contour in Catia & mesh in gambit n solve using fluent. But How do i plot the 2d contour for the nozzle.(bell shaped) for a shock-free isentropic flow? has any1 plotted the 2d nozzle before? if so pls help..

Hi

This is not a big issue especially if u wana do in 2D. Ther may be two ways

1) Remain the profile (outer) in Catia and export it as IGES. Then import this IGES in Gambit

2) If you have coordinates available in x, y or x, R format then copy them to a excel. Her you will get them in column format. Then copy the two (or three columns in case of 3D) to a notepad file. the first row will however contain the number of points (above first column) and edges above (2nd column). Then in Gambit import it as an ICEM input. Hope this will help :)

hey shamoon thanks for the reply. i do know about importing iges but how do i plot the contour in catia? i dont have x, y co-ordinates for the 2d model(bell shaped). Should i use some approach like Method of Characteristics to design it? I dont know much about MOC approach..just know a bit.

CD Nozzle profile

Hi

Ok your issue is a bit different, I havent desgined any nozzle myself so yes I think u need MOD to desing nozzle profile. Better see Anderson book compressible fluid flow

Regards

If you're doing a 2D planar nozzle the MOC equations break down into algebraic equations. If you're trying to do an axially symmetric nozzle you're going to have to use finite differences with MOC. Either way you would want to write a piece of code to solve for the nozzle shape.

To do this use the MOC equations along the characteristics and use a mass balance at the nozzle wall.
