Hi,
I am trying to simulate 2D savonius rotor wind turbine. but i have done every thing good so far expect the post processing one.

I am trying to calculate the Drag coefficient and Lift coefficient of my work. The way which i am using right now. Report > Forces> then i am going to x and y direction forces. Then converting the the forces in to tangential force and normal force using those two Equation :

Fn= Fx*SinA+Fy*CosA
Ft=-(Fx*CosA-Fy*SinA)

Here is A is 0 for balde1, 120 for blade2, 240 for blade 3 .

After that i am using the formula
Cd=Fd/(1/2*p*U*U*A)
Cl=Fl/(1/2*p*U*U*A)
to calculate drag and lift.

But i am not getting the value which i am suppose to get for this work. Am i going to the right way ??

I have attached jou file i am not sure you will be able to see that please let me know. i cant upload the cas file as the size is more than 97 kB.

thanks in advance

Kirit

Hi kirit!
I doing the same problem to u. But i don't know how to Apply the inlet and outlet. How can we apply the angular velocity of rotor what the unknown of turbine problem?

sir i am student of M.tech at NIT surat. i am doing numerical simulation of wind turbine by fluent. so i am facing some problems with defining the boundary conditions. so wl u please help me regarding boundary conditions.sir i have modeled wind turbine in gambit and meshed it with two domain interior domain with .5d same as wind radius. and another one is off bigger domain of 4d in diameter. and 3d in front and 5d in back. i have defined the interface in between the surfaces of interior and outer domain. by giving the condition of rotor stationary and the near by domain air is rotating i am getting the axial velocity at the rotor plane more than inlet velocity. is this correct or not. and please help me out how to calculate the power output and coefficient of power.
thanks

Hi
ok, very long back i was done simulation in CFX-11
Boundary conditions:
Inlet:Stagination Temperature and Velocity(sunsonic)
Outlet: static pressure(subsonic)
K&e model,boundary layer 2mm
