Particle residence time

Hi,

I am really confused about the meaning of particle residence time. I want to do some sort of tracer study to see how long the particle takes to leave a tank. I defined a surface injection at the inlet (with massless particles). I set the maximum number of steps in the DPM to 5000. Then I went to Graphics and animation->particle tracks and color particle by particle residence time. I click pulse, and the particles enter from the inlet. At the end of the 5000 steps, none of the particles managed to escape at the outlet, but I expect their color to be the same since they all spent the same time inside the tank, so their residence time should be the same, but they have different colors. Can anyone explain to me why?

Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Regards,
Eric
