fluid flow around a half burn pipe

Dear all..
hi my name is Destry im a student of ITB (Bandung Institute of Technology) Indonesia major in ocean engineering I'm working on my thesis now about fluid flow around the pipe.. I have done a laboratory test. and now need a numerical simulation using FLUENT I examine the flow of water around the pipe that partly buried. There are two cases: single pipe and three parallel pipes .. I am just learning this software .. Please help me how to simulate these with FLUENT to produce velocity and pressure around the pipe .. thanks a lot Regards Destry |

i have make the meshing with gambit,, (but dont know it is a good meshing)
but really dont know how to run them in FLUENT,,, so,, i need steps how to run them n produce the velocity and pressure around the pipe |
Have you gone through some of the fluent tutorials? That's really the best way to get started and learn how to use the software. Also, the user's guide is actually pretty good at guiding you towards which solver to use, turbulence model, etc. Do you have some specific questions about the software?

Yes, you should be able to view the velocity and pressure data for your case. You can display them by going to Display-->Contours. Maybe you could post some plots of your solution and grid? Also, what solver are you using, what are your boundary conditions, etc?

here i attach the grid and some of the fluent result..
i use steps in fluent tutorials to produce them http://flowlab.fluent.com/exercise/pdfs/cylinder.pdf so,, the data (pressure and velocity at each grid) will auto saved? how to open them? do they available in notepad format? |
The data can be saved at whatever interval you choose by going to File-->Write-->Autosave. You can post-process with fluent, or you could use something else, but I'm not really sure why you want to open the data file with a text editor, as the data is not in a reader-friendly format.
Regarding your simulation, what are your boundary conditions? Also, you might think about moving your inflow boundary farther upstream and refining the mesh in the near-wall regions. |
in gambit you mean?
the boundary condition: velocity inlet outflow and wall for pipe and upper n bottom area.. i need the data (velocity and pressure) to calculate scouring with empirical formulas so i cant get them? |

I hope that the images I attached can be enough of a reference, as I don't feel comfortable sending you the actual grid.
Regarding the wall boundary condition: I you can't set a "soil" boundary condition, but you can set a value for the wall surface roughness to simulate the soil. That might be enough to get you what you need. Although, I might not understand exactly what you're asking. |
