Hey, I am very new to combustion modeling. Does someone have good idea how accurate or inaccurate of NOx prediction in Fluent? What are the ways to improve it? What are the classic references in this area?

Appreciate your help!

Hi Paul,

It pretty much depends on what you are looking at. U didn't specify the process you are simulating and whether radiation plays a role or not. Critical is the temperaure you get from your combustion and if you have adiabatic walls your temps would be high since losses are neglected. So u want to spend good time in accurately trying to reproduce the temps you get from measurements. Plus if you are using the Zeldovich mechanism, then predicting NOx is pretty much a post-processing process and so what you get from your converged simulation would determine the NOx you generate. I suggest you read the Fluent tutorials and work around seeting your problem according to what you would have in practice. Key would be having measurement data for temps, nox to help you validate ur model. hope this helps. Jimmy

Jim,

What you said totally makes sense. The NOx prediction depends so much on our experience and test data. We could only learn along the way.

I really appreciate your valuable inputs and thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions.

Best Regards,

Paul
