How to generate waves of particular wave height...please help

Hallo everybody,

Can anybody help me out in creating waves with specific wave height?
My problem is to study the forces on a vertical cylinder in a wave tank.
I emerged successful in creating linear waves by giving wave paddle motion to one of the walls.But my problem is

1. wat are the parameters that determine the wave height which is being generated when we use a udf for giving the motion to moving wall.Can i use the same udf provided in the wave tutorial.If so how can i modify the constants

vel[0]=(0.037098)*((1 - exp(-2.303*time))*7.7528*cos(7.7528*time) + ((2.303*exp(-2.303*time))*sin(7.7528*time)));

Anybody knows how this equation is formed?

2. Also my problem is 3D.Can i use the other method of defining the u and v velocity of a linear wave instead of the moving wall method.

Please help me out.

Thanks
