Mixing Tank

Dear All
I am working on the CFD simulation of a mixing tank by using Fluent. The agitator used is the standard Rushtan Turbine. I am just a beginner to Fluent. I want to start with using Gambit to mesh the tank and the impeller.
Can any body send me the related links for tutorials or send me the tutorials on jawidnaik@gmail.com

Regards
Jawid

Hello

yes You can go to the following site and you can get all relavant information.

Thanks Mohsin

Than you Mohsin. These links are realy helpful.
I would like to mention that the basic problem i face is making geometry of a rushton turbine in gambit. I read from the links, i received from you, that the complex geometrise, like that of a rushtuon turbine, can be made in CAD and then imported to gambit or Fluent.

Is this software Auto CAD which mainly mechanical engineers use.?
Could you please tell me whether i can use gambit for making impeller geometry.?
If you don't mind, kindly give me your e-mail id by sending a test mail to jawidnaik@gmail.com

The following link is the GAMBIt tutorial. In this tutorial You can find tutorials related to impellers for drawing in GAMBIT. Go to tutorial 10 in the following link.

http://vincent.chapin.free.fr/Cours%...-tutorials.pdf

If you know CAD software (which mechanical engineers use for making designs) then you can make the design in CAD then u can import it in GAMBIt but still u need to use GAMBIt for mesh generation or you may need other softwares for mesh generation if you still dont want to use GAMBIt for mesh generation.

P.S. We can do all correspondence here. May be someone else can get benefit.

Hi Mohsin, I have made the geometry of Tank and Rushton turbine in gambit, but i don't know how for i have gone correct.
Now i want to mesh the geometry. Before meshing it, I have to set different zones (like moving reference frame and stationary reference frame) for post analysis in Fluent. How this is being done in gambit, i don't know. kindly reply...

After geomerty you have to do the following things:

1. Mesh the gemotry ...It is better to mesh your geomtry with hexahedral mesh volume elemants because it has got better quality.
2. then you have to check the quality of the mesh. If the quality (Equiangle and equiside skews are less than 0.85 then its ok otherwise you will face difficulties in convergence in fluent.
3. Then you export ypour mesh and in fluent You clikck on "check" which will check whether you have negative volumes and/or ur mesh is alrite etc.
4. Things like moving reference frames are decided in Fluent not in Gambit.
5. You have to first run the test tutorial on any model which is related to ur model which will give you sufficient practice. You can search on internet and/or the tutorials/materials which i sent you.

Good luck

Hi Mohsin, i am also a beginner to fluent. i am also currently working on a 1m by 1m by 1m sq tank with an impeller. May i know how to go about setting the boundary conditions in fluent for the mixing tank?

hello

You can see the pdfs which i gave to Mr jawaid above. It would help you out and also u can search CFD online website for more discussions on this topic.

P.S. I dont have experience of impeller geomtry but yes I am working on multiphase flows and mixing.

Good luck
