HELP please!!! ''note: separating wall zone into zones..'' - Import from ICEM
Dear all,

I am modelling conjugate heat transfer from combustion process in a burner and when I import from ICEM, fluent 12 creates the coupled walls but separates some of them in other zones eg.

''separating wall zone 1_1 into zone 1_1 and zone 1 0.59''

most of the created zones are just a few cells or triangles..

I have a fluid volume region and a few solid regions for CHT.

Can you please tell me why this happens and how can I solve it?

It had happened to me in the past but I improved the mesh which now passes all the checks from ICEM but the wall separation happens in more walls than it did in the past.. :(

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I have the same problem with one of my cases

Hi jpo,

I think I found the problem although have not managed to solve it 100%

So (at least for my cases), the separation happens either when there are surface elements that do not capture a surface or when then there are surfaces shared by two different parts.
The latter might be reasonable although there may be problems when setting BOCOs.
I haven't found a way to deal with that yet..
The bad surface elements can be eliminated by re-meshing and being careful when setting mesh sizes for each surface.
These are the causes of my problems and might not apply in your cases.

All the best

thank you

I found out when I cut volumes with a face and then introduce interior and wall faces as needed, the problem in fluent disappears.

It is much more work in gambit to do it that way though :)

I have had this same issue when importing from GAMBIT. In particular, when disconnected faces of a zone are imported, Fluent creates new wall zones. Dealing with the resulting setting of BC's is tedious, so I avoid changes to the mesh or I try to automate them with a script.
