I think so - the Exceed splash-screen pops up when I try to launch Gambit - i don't however get any form of X-window (which i might have expected) - are there some particular settings within exceed I should use ?

is the 'hummingbird neighborhood' icon on your desktop?
Also I had a problem a while back when my firewall blocked internet access from Gambit. You don't even need the cable plugged in as long as Gambit thinks it has access to the Web. |

Same problem here. Exceed installed, opens window but not X-window. The application fails to start gambit. What about this firewall. Should i disable it?

Phil - it was the firewall ! As you indicate, even with cable plugged out, it still wouldn't run until i disabled my McAfee personal firewall.
Thanks for your help - i would never have sussed it otherwise. Paul |

Go into your firewall and manually allow access to Gambit. You probably disabled access when prompted by accident.

it's not usually the windows firewall that causes a problem but one that may have came with your pc, like zonealarm/norton/mcafee,etc. You should either go into the main firewall and enable internet access for Gambit or shut the firewall down. Make sure it's also away on the list of icons at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.
If you don't have a firewall(you should get one!) then post the full error message on the forum. |
