I am wondering that I should define a separate UDF for calculating the gradient of the Custom Field Function ?

You can define a UDS, but without solving for it. Instead, a DEFINE_ADJUST fonction compute the scalar value for each cell. Then FLUENT will compute the gradient (even if you do not solve the corresponding transport equation).
There is an example that do it there: FLUENT 12.0 UDF manual --> 2.2.1 DEFINE ADJUST --> example 2 |
