Parallel processing in W7 64 bit
 

Hi all,

I have installed Fluent 12 on Windows 7 pro (64 bit).

The machine has following specs:

Intel® Core i7 950 Processor (3,06Ghz - 8 MB)
12 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (3 x 4 GB)

But how should I choose the number of parallel processes?

The i7 processer has 4 cores and 8 threads, so should I choose 4 parallel processes or can I only choose 1?

I used to work on a Linux machine, but due to the variety of used programs I was forced to switch back to Windows.

Any help is appreciated!

have a look to the Fluent documentation : 1.1.5. Command Line Startup Option
if you want to use 4 cores : add -t4 to the command line

via FLUENT Launcher Processing options Parallel local and select the number of physical proc

I have tried to open a parallel version of fluent (local Machine). When I want to start fluent I got following error:

I tried the other settings under “parallel settings” but I still got the same error message.

I didn’t install any MPI software because I thought it is already integrated in W7.

Maybe this has something to do with the Fluent prerequisites I installed the first time? If I remember it well, Fluent installed the C++ 2005 version and asked for a change in the control panel for a SP.

If anyone has an idea for successful parallel settings, please let me know.

hi,
first you MUST install mpi on your system. fluent has mpi with it and in installation progress it asks to install it or not.
after installing it,first try a 2-core parallelizing instead of 4. if you have any option to run local parallel or distributed parallel, choose local. after disabling firewalls(firewall of windows and any other firewall you've installed), try again and tell me about the result.

Actually it worked fine with the command window instead of the windows launcher.

I tried it yesterday and it worked after enabling acces through the firewall :)
