ANSYS Fluent 2021R2 on Rocky 8.4+

If you wish to install Fluent on some current Linux distribution such as the "new CentOS 8" Rocky or Alma Linux then you might run into troubles since ANSYS does not officially support 8.4 and above. Not to worry though, it is quite easy to make it work anyway.

Here are some notes from the installation. Hopefully it can help someone. Do the following before you run the installation (if you already have installed it then I suggest removing the files and also deleting the .ansys folder in your home directory)

NOTE: I have installed this on a fresh Rocky 8.4 installation with the "Workstation" software package plus "Development tools" and "Scientific computing".

1. Check and install all dependencies uner §1.5 in the installation guide. There are a few missing dependencies though so after you have checked the list, also:

This should solve problems related to:

Error: Error in CAD Import
Error Object: #f


Error: Importing selected file could not be completed. Check to make sure the selected file format is supported. In addition, check to make sure the CAD Readers are properly configured for the format using the CAD Configuration Manager Utility.
Error Object: #f

Note that this problem appears even if using CAD directly from Workbench so it has nothing to do with the suggested solution in the error message.

I have not found any strange behavior after this, connected to either Design Modeler, Meshing, Fluent Meshing or Fluent.

For Debian:

You have not written which version of Debian. If you are on anything newer than 9 then I doubt that is sufficient to get it working. Could you please confirm if all functionality is there, i.e. test design modeler as well as meshing (generate mesh!)?

With ANSYS 2022r2 they may have support for Ubuntu 20.04, which in turn means that most semi-new distros will work.
