Dynamic Mesh of Valve Leaflet and Residual

Hi All,

I am trying to simulate the motion of the aortic valve leaflet by performing a 2-way FSI and coupling FLUENT with ABAQUS. The MPCCI software is used to couple both fluid and structural software.

My problem is on the continuity between time steps. Even if the displacements of leaflets are very small, I can observe a significant jump of the residual from 10-3 to 10+2 among each time step. After this jump of residuals, the pressure outlets do not follow anymore the initial guage pressures and becames negative.

I am wondering if someone else run into a similar problem or has suggestion.

I doubt you can solve this case using the MPCCI connection to ABAQUS. For bio-medical applications you typically need tight interface coupling. Try the new System Coupling approach in version 14.0. Search for "FSI" on the ANSYS Customer Portal to see how to stabilize this type of case with System Coupling.

I am also trying to simulate the motion of abdominal aorta by performing 2-way transient FSI coupling between FLUENT and MECHANICAL. Can you tell me which data you are using for wall of aorta? I need Uniaxial, Biaxial and Shear Test Data.
