I am modeling a 2D Gas Solid Fluidized bed and I would like to adjust the Syamlal O'Brien Drag model so that the model can predict the experimental minimum fluidization velocity. I have read a number of papers where this has been done but the authors do not describe the procedure in details.

I was looking for this some weeks ago and I found this question as I searched through google. I was disappointed nobody answered it 9 years ago so since I have found something and someone else may be looking a this and thinking "It's a shame nobody answered this 9 years ago" like I was, I have decided to share what I know which is not much but can help.

The NTEL has a CFD open-source software called MFIX and since Dr. Syamlal works there he has been involved to some degree in the development of this package. The software uses by default the Syamlal-O'Brien drag model and comes with a tool (excel spreadsheet) to modify the drag model to adjust it to the experimental mfv.

If someone is interested, they should visit the MFIX site, in particular, the documentation section.

This is the direct link to the tool.

I hope this helps someone. although it is not an explanation of how to do it, it does it.

Cheers.
