Hi,

I want to analysis nozzle plume in vacuum,

unfortunately, Knudsen number >> 0.03

that means Navier-Stokes Equations gonna be useless :x

so I googled, DSMC(Direct Simulation Monte Carlo) algorithm could

solve Boltzmann Equation(which is valid for rarefied gas).

here is my question; can i use DSMC(or whatever has ability to solve Boltzmann equation) through Fluent?

thanks for your reading(although my English skill was terrible)

and I'll wait for your reply

Cartman.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

I don't know if they got their answer, but the answer is "no".

Dsmc works in a fundamentally different way than finite volume or finite element, you can reuse almost nothing from the Fluent internal programming. You need other dedicated software for that.

Related to the original question: at Kn=0.03, CFD in Fluent is not useless, especially not if you add low pressure boundary slip. At Kn=0.1, it is still a good solution, not perfect but better than nothing, and a good starting point for Dsmc. At Kn=1 you can forget about Fluent.
