Will this work
I'm currently using an eight year old Hewlett Packard desktop (m9552p) with openFoam 2.3 . Typical problems I play with are .5 - 1.5 million cells, compressible and high subsonic. This is something I do solely for pleasure and personal challenge, nothing more. Briefly, it uses a Q8200 cpu (2.3GHZ, four cores, two channel board), memory is 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 800MHZ........not modified in any way. But even for a hobbyist like me it has serious speed/capacity limitations when compared to what's currently available. After reading thru the past 1 - 2 years of discussion as a guide, I've picked out several components to use, along with another cannibalized desktop, to build something strictly for computation.

8 to 16 cores is a better number for that cell count .
