Dear Forum Users,
I am trying to gather all the specifications for a High Performance Cluster to do CFD simulations, mainly with AVL FIRE. One of the things where I struggle is the data storage. Can the speed of the hard disk (in terms of the IOPS) really be the bottleneck for the simualtion? I figured that a faster hard disk (maybe 10.000 rpms, performing with about 120 IOPS) should be fine and I assumed the bottlenecks to be the communication between the nodes (InfiniBand instead of Ethernet) and of course the cores per cpu and the RAM. Yet some people suggest otherwise. Does anyone have experience or maybe an estimation how many IOPS I would need for typical engine simulations with AVL FIRE? |
