Hi. I'm opting to buy a new laptop, with dual boot with Windows and Linux.
Before cashing 1500EUR, I must check the compatibility for dual boot...since I plan to use OpenFoam and other Linux stuff. I found one excellent ASUS here, it is the ASUS ROG G751JT-T7254D with i-7 and 16GB. (Specs are: ASUS G751JT-T7254D, Intel Core i7-4720HQ, 2,60, 16 GB, 17,3", 1920x1080, SATA 1000 GB, Free DOS, NVIDIA GeForce GTX970M (3GB), DVD±RW DL, 802.11ac, Bluetooth 4.0,WiDi (Wireless Display Interface),LAN, HDMI 1, USB 3.0 4, 3,8 kg, black, 2 year warranty). I found on ASUS forum that installing Ubuntu's for dual boot is no problem, and a friend confirming excellent long-term performance of ASUS notebooks and no problems with Ubuntu 12.04 on a older and 14.04 Ubuntu on a newer ASUS notebook with dual boot.(https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...4-04-in-G751JT) //I also liked a Toshiba Satellite P70-B-10T but could not find valid resources confirming their compatibility for dual boot and on which Linux.// Has anyone had experience with these ASUS, and is it possible to install CentOS 7 or other Linux distribution? Have no preference for any, other than a occasional access to a workstation with CentOS, so having the same on all PC's. Btw. what is your recommendation for a CFD laptop with dual boot? ( Say intel i-7 and 16 GB RAM.) Any feedback is appreciated! Milan |
