Multi 5820k CPU in a desktop or workstation?
Hi guys,
Now I have a desktop with one 5820k, x99 motherboard, 16G RAM. Im wondering can I have a desktop (or workstation) with more 5820k CPU? Thanks. |
Not with a shared memory architecture. You can only fit one I7 processor on a mainboard.
The Xeon E5-2xxx, E5-4xxx, E7-4xxx and E7-8xxx on the other hand have a higher scalability. http://ark.intel.com/ |

The spec sheet says "Scalability: 1S Only". So only one CPU.
Hint: the first digit of the 4-digit model number tells you how many processors you can have on a single mainboard. Hence only Quote:

You can of course run two (or more) separate i7-5820K computers in parallel though, and distribute a single CFD simulation across them.
You would connect the two via gigE or Infiniband network. |
