Quad socket server

I am considering getting a quad socket server for our CFD simulations.
We are using FloTHERM, the FloTHERM solver cannot split the solution to multiple systems only to multiple CPUs on a single system.

That is why I was thinking the quad socket would be the right choice.

I was thinking about 4 low core count 4-10 , high clock >3GHz CPUs.
Will I get the benefit of the quad socket memory bandwidth or are there other bottlenecks I did not consider?

Typical simulations in our team are 1M-15M cells

The Quad socket server should run very well. Make sure you have at least 4 DIMMS per CPU, and they they are populated evenly and correctly across all CPUs. This would be a "balanced memory configuration"

Make this 6 DIMMs per CPU with the new Skylake-SP Xeon processors ;)

Thanks. I saw these only now lunched, can I find a server that has them?

Take into consideration that you need Xeon Gold 61xx processors. This table can be useful when choosing: https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/xeon_gold

Reasonably priced DDR4-2666-modules start at 16 GB. So you would end up with at least 384 GB.
