Recommendation to buy a workstation 2018
 
Hello everyone,

I am working with a university. Our intention is to simulate in ansys fluent.
We have a workstation with specifications:

HP Z620
24 GB RAM
Intel Xeon Cpu E5-2620
2.00 GHz
24 Processors
NVIDIA Quadro K600 4GB

This workstation is not enough for our case:

3D, Transient, Turbulence, 8 million mesh.

It can calculate but cannot write data.

Also i have 25 million mesh but the workstation doesn't calculate because of memory error.

I want your recommendation what workstation we should buy.

Please can you write the features of the workstation that we should buy.

edit: Our budget is approximately 5000$. The number of parallel Fluent licenses are 16.

edit2: "It can calculate but cannot write data." --> Run calculation is starting for transient. It has autosave every 60 time-steps. However, it is not saving data at 60th time-steps with memory error.

edit3: I received a workstation offer with this specifications:
HP Z6
HP Intel Xeon Gold 5118 2.3GHz 10.4GT/s 16.50MB Cache 2400MHz 12C
HP 64GB (4x16GB) DDR4 2666MHz
12 processors
What do you think? Does it works for my cases: 25 million mesh, 3D, transient, turbulence?

You would need to provide us with at least a rough estimate for your budget and the number of parallel Fluent licenses you can use.
You could easily upgrade memory on your current workstation and switch off Hyperthreading to turn it into a useful CFD workstation that can run your simulations. This would be the cheapest option, but there are many more that differ in cost and performance.

Open the case and figure out which type and how many memory modules the workstation currently has. Then you can determine how many and which type of DIMMs you need for an upgrade. 24GB sounds like the memory configuration is non-optimal anyway, i.e. not 4 DIMMs with identical capacity and number of ranks for each CPU.
So for upgrading you will probably need DIMMs of 8GB DDR3-1600 reg ECC. These can be found from resellers at around 30-40$ a piece, sometimes cheaper.

You can turn off Hyperthreading in the bios. It is still recommended to do this for CFD workstations.
