Memory upgrade

I have a dual 2678 V3 workstation, which I use to run steady and transient simulations in CFX and Fluent.
My simulations are mostly under 5 M cells. Right now, two 2400 MHz 16 GB have been installed for each processor and three slots are not occupied for each of them. The performance tab of the memory under task manager shows that 13.5 GB is used and 8.1 GB is available. However, I did not know about the importance of memory bandwidth in CFD simulations. Will there be any improvement in terms of simulation time if I use more memory? |

Especially size, rated frequency and internal organization. If in doubt, you could just sell the DIMMs you already have and replace them with 8x8GB. |

Yes, You will absolutely get a very large gain going from only 1 memory channel to 4 per processor.
That is if you are using enough cores to saturate the memory bandwidth. If you are running on 1 core, then you probably will only see a very modest gain. If you are solving on more cores, your gains will be larger as the memory can keep up with a higher number of cores before bottle-necking. |
