Increasing memory can be a solution or Graphic card?
Hello, I use ANSYS CFX 2019 R3.
I am dealing with big problem that has a lot of small holes and tubes like heat exchanger. The mesh size is over one point five hundred million and it takes two days to make it. I don't think my computer has low capability. CPU : Intel Xeon E5 2643 v2 x2(dual) Memory : DDR3 192GByte VGA : NVIDIA Quadro K2000 HDD : ATA SCSI Disk Which divice can improve meshing speed by changing or updating? Thank you for reading my problem. |
The graphics card is not involved during mesh creation. Changing it would accomplish nothing.
Check how much memory is used during mesh generation. If it is close to the memory capacity of your workstation and swapping occurs, upgrading memory might help. Ansys mesher should have some parallel processing capabilities, but last time I checked, they were turned off by default. The last resort might be checking out different meshing tools, and see which one gets the job done quicker. By the way, how much exactly is "one point five hundred million"? |
Thank you very much indeed.
I didn't know parallel processing capabilities in ANSYS meshing. I will find and turn it on. I am sorry for writing the wrong nodes number. I mean 150,000,000nodes. |
Check your Hard disk usage during the procedure. It is possible to make a bottleneck.

Thank you, Habib-CFD,
Can SSD be a solution? It could be a low cost solution also. I opened task manager but hard disk doesn't move at all for meshing. CPU(13%), Memory(23%, 44GB) and GPU(100%) are used for meshing. |

I don't know what might be loading your GPU, but I am as certain as humanly possible that it is not Ansys meshing. It does not have GPU acceleration.
The graphical user interface will put load on the GPU when displaying and interacting with a mesh of 150 million cells, but a faster GPU will not lead to faster meshing times. |
Try to update the GPU driver before any change.

I tried SAPPHIRE Radeon RX570 PULSE but...
It doesn't show good performance. Isn't it good for SpaceClaim rendering and ANSYS CFX? Is there any other fast graphic card for ANSYS 3D rendering work and loading mesh fast at CFX pre? When I move mouse the model move after 3 second. Mouse and model don't move simultaneously.

I feel this condition must be related to the CPU performance in a single-core condition. Most of the preprocessing and post-processing perform only by a single core of CPU.

Two CPU machine I use
Thank you again for your fast reply. But I use 2 CPU machine and 12 cores. What is my problem?
|
I honestly don't know what the problem is here.
Maybe your expectations are too high. Interacting in a GUI with a mesh that has 150 million cells can be challenging. Maybe there is something else stressing your GPU. It would be pretty straightforward to find out what it is, and eliminate most of the guessing. Or maybe you didn't install the graphics driver properly, or used the wrong graphics driver. These are points that YOU would have to investigate before randomly buying a different GPU. |
