Hello Flotus and Cfd Online forum members. I will buy a workstation computer for my ansys cfx analysis. I m gonna analyze free surface rigid body ship and propeller cavitation and propulsion analysis on cfd.

I m between 2 computers. 2nd computer %20 more expensive than 1st one.

1st computer is hp 840 ver1

2x 2660 v4 Xeon (28 core, 56 threads)
32 gb ddr 4 ram
8 gb pny nvidia Quattro display card
1 tb hdd
256 go ssd

2nd computer is hp 840 ver2

2x2680 v4 Xeon (28 core 56 threads)
64 gb ddr4 ram
4 gb k5000 Quattro display card
512 gb ssd

What is the main difference between 2660 v4 and 2680 v4?

Which computer do you prefer and why ?

Thanks so much for your helps *♂️

The CPUs are basically the same, with 400-500MHz difference in base and all-core turbo frequency.

So the 2680 v4 is a bit faster. With 14 cores on 4 memory channels, the frequency will not translate 1:1 to lower solver times. Up to you if that is worth the potentially higher price.
Whatever you pick, make sure the memory configuration is reasonable. 32GB might be a bit on the low side, depending on how large your simulations get. And a workstation with 2 of these CPUs needs 8 DIMMs total. If the seller doesn't specify that, ask before you buy.
