The CPUs are basically the same, with 400-500MHz difference in base and all-core turbo frequency.
https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/xeon_e5/e5-2660_v4 https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/xeon_e5/e5-2680_v4 So the 2680 v4 is a bit faster. With 14 cores on 4 memory channels, the frequency will not translate 1:1 to lower solver times. Up to you if that is worth the potentially higher price. Whatever you pick, make sure the memory configuration is reasonable. 32GB might be a bit on the low side, depending on how large your simulations get. And a workstation with 2 of these CPUs needs 8 DIMMs total. If the seller doesn't specify that, ask before you buy. |
