Sapphire Rapids with High Bandwidth Memory openfoam benchmark
"In the benchmark, the Sapphire Rapids-SP non-HBM solution offers up to 60% higher performance than Ice Lake-SP while the HBM Xeon solution offers up to 180% performance increase. The same is true when comparing the chip to AMD's EPYC Milan lineup"

Obligatory "first party benchmark with very little information about the actual procedure" reminder ;)
But yeah, Sapphire Rapids should make the switch to 8-channel DDR5 memory. That's at least a 50% increase in memory bandwidth compared to current-gen CPUs. So the 60% performance increase without HBM sounds plausible. The next CPU generations from both Intel and AMD will be very exciting. AMD allegedly more than doubles memory bandwidth with 12-channel DDR5 on Genoa. And both companies will implement some variation of huge last-level caches. Can't wait to see how these solutions perform. And if I will be able to afford any of that for my personal workstation. Provided we can even get our hands on them. |
