Hey y'all. I've got a H12DSi-N6 with dual 7642's in it, and I'm having some difficulty getting it to POST--instead it just power cycles continuously.
I've tried the basic troubleshooting steps, like:
  • Populating only 1 DIMM as per the DIMM population guide (CPU1C1 in this case)
  • Clearing the CMOS settings
I'm kinda at a loss as to where to go from here. Can someone help point me in the right direction? (Looking at you, flotus1 haha)
Thanks!

Is there a code showing in the right lower corner of the Supermicro start screen? This number should continuously change during the boot sequence.

There are a few things that have come up time and time again with similar issues:
  • Shorts on the backside of the motherboard. The standoffs for this board are not in the same positions most ATX cases come with by default. Check that, and maybe try to get POST with the board outside of a case.
  • Wrong monitor output. By default, the board outputs a monitor signal to the onboard VGA. This can be changed in bios (which you probably can't get into?) and with a jumper on the board. Or try to connect a monitor to the VGA port and see if you get an image.
  • Poor contact of CPUs with the socket. Re-seating the CPUs can be necessary, being extra careful when torquing the screws.
  • CMOS reset on these boards requires bridging two contact pads with a screwdriver. The manual has the exact procedure. Did you follow that?
  • What else is connected? Remove everything that is not strictly necessary. One CPU in the correct socket, and one DIMM according to the manual, that's the starting point.
  • Don't forget about IPMI. Maybe you can get some useful information there
And lastly, which RAM are you using? It's reg ECC, right?
