Hi All,

I am a recently graduated uni student who is about to embark on a rather low key development project with my friends race team. I will be using CFX to develop a new aerodynamics package for his vehicle and would like some advice regarding suitable hardware for this sort of operation.

My basic questions are:

CPU-Quad Core vs Dual Core? Processor speed?

Ram-Speed or quantity?

HDD-Speed important here?

I am building a dedicated coputer to run these operations and will doing pre and post on my current workstation. I am limited by budget to 775 socket hardware, however, this should give me the grunt I need to solve 10-50M Node problems.

Current system:

e5300 OC @ 3.6GHz
Asus P5QL Pro
8GB (4x2) DDR 2 800MHz RAM
2x500 WD Black RAID0

Well, for that budget and cell size, i think you will have a huge difficult!!!!

Though mine is a Laptop , i have a i5 processor , 4 Gb ram DDR3 and 500 Gb hard disk with 3 MB cache size,and 1 Gb graphics card of ati radeon mobility series,. and average one . guess this should do gud ?? what is your opinion ?

You are going to have a very difficult time getting enough ram to load a 50M node problem on a desktop machine without disk thrashing. That is a fairly large problem and I would suggest instead perhaps springing for a few diskless 1U server nodes. The setup will be a bigger hassle but you will be much happier with your capabilities in the end.
