CFD and Multimedia
Hi. I'm a student. In university, I'm studied about CFD. I like it. So I like multimedia too as game design, moves techniques. I want to study master but I dont know about a job can combine CFD and multimedia. As I know techniques about water in movie uses knowledge 's CFD. Can you help me about what I need to study and where can I study?

You didn't write your profession so I suppose it is related with physics. Or it is expected to be related with physics in order to study CFD.

Beside, you would like to generate flow movies and this directly means that you need to focus it without studying CFD. I read some articles about movie generators for realistic flows but cannot remember specific names. Maybe you can search for them.

Especially I recommend you to read for the "Star Wars The Force Unleashed" phsics engine. In addition to the graphics engine, physics engine helps you to simulate material characteristics as much as possible.

I'm not sure if I got this correctly, but alot of the CFD done for movies etc is "simply" a CFD simulation with very advanced post-processing.

Blender is very well known in the movie effects world, and it is possible to export from openFOAM into Blender and doing some seriously realistic animation and rendering.

One of the world's leading experts on CFD animation for movies is Prof. Ron Fedkiw from Standford University. His research group is really good at what they do.

Right. I also have seen some interesting animations about fire and smoke propagation. From the CFD code, there was just the temperature and smoke concentration exported, but the rendered animation was pretty nice. Close to real-life, except the low resolution.
In this case, it wasn't done to make any movies but to make some "engineers pictures" suitable for managers.

RealFlow from Next Limit Technologies has pretty much been the standard for fluid modeling in the movie industry since the late 90s.

You can build your toolkit by taking physics, programming, and numerical analysis/application classes.
